Ticketmaster Defends Policies Amid FTC Lawsuit, Introduces New Measures to Address Criticism

Live Nation has openly criticized the Federal Trade Commission’s recent lawsuit, terming it a “distorted view of the facts and the law,” following inquiries from US Senators Marsha Blackburn and Ben Ray Luján. In a detailed letter, Dan Wall, Live Nation’s Executive Vice President of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, robustly denied allegations of collusion with ticket brokers, reinforcing that all concert tickets distributed by Ticketmaster are transparently sold in open onsales to fans. To address ongoing criticism, Ticketmaster plans to limit all entities, including ticket brokers, to a single account and eliminate excess accounts. Additionally, features for managing tickets via TradeDesk will be removed, a move Wall attributes to the reputational challenges outweighing its value. Despite blocking an estimated 8.7 billion bots in April 2025 and stopping 99% of daily fraudulent sign-up attempts, the company faces calls for further reform. Critics, including the National Independent Talent Association and the National Independent Venue Association, suggest capping ticket resale at face value to safeguard artists and fans. Wall’s letter serves as a strategic preview of Ticketmaster’s defense in the FTC case. The industry anticipates the senators’ responses as the discourse continues.
