Spotify Introduces Enhanced Parental Controls with Managed Accounts

Spotify is setting a new standard for family-friendly streaming by expanding its managed accounts feature under the Premium Family plan. Rolling out in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, this initiative empowers parents with comprehensive control over their children’s listening experiences. Parents can now filter explicit content, block specific songs or artists, and even disable video playback and interactive features. Significantly, these controlled accounts ensure that a child’s music preferences don’t interfere with their parent’s algorithms, preserving personal recommendations and Wrapped insights.

Japan Pushes OpenAI to Respect Anime Copyrights

Amid rising concerns over intellectual property rights, the Japanese government is urging OpenAI to address copyright issues with its Sora 2 video tool. This technology has found popularity among users for recreating iconic manga and anime characters, prompting Japan’s cultural guardians to seek stronger safeguards. Highlighting manga and anime as cultural “treasures,” Japan is pressing OpenAI to reinforce its copyright control mechanisms, especially as criticism mounts over its handling of Japanese IP compared to Western properties.

Lightning Round: Industry Updates

In an exciting development for dance music fans, Beatport has unveiled Beatport Tickets, a new service specifically for dance events across the UK and EU. This platform, developed in collaboration with Weeztix, offers a seamless experience for event listings, sales, and promotional tools, including custom playlists linked to events.

Amazon Music Live is back to enrich Thursday nights with its concert series airing after NFL games on Prime Video and Twitch. Featuring top artists premiering new tracks directly after the games, this initiative is a strategic blend of sports and music to elevate fan involvement and broaden Prime Video’s reach.

In a bid to merge music with travel, Live Nation Asia has joined forces with Trip.com to launch concert travel packages in five Asian markets. Fans can now access bundled deals that include concert tickets, flights, accommodation, and local experiences, tapping into the rising trend of music-driven tourism.

Lastly, in a move set to bolster the arts community, Ireland plans to cement its Basic Income for the Arts program as a permanent offering by 2026. Supporting around 2,000 artists with a weekly €325 stipend, paid monthly, the program will broaden eligibility across more creative disciplines from September 2026.
