Ticketmaster Faces Scrutiny: Defends Policies, Plans Reforms in Response to FTC Lawsuit

Ticketmaster, a key player in the live music industry, has found itself under the spotlight following a recent FTC lawsuit alleging unethical practices in ticket sales. In a detailed letter to U.S. senators Marsha Blackburn and Ben Ray Luján, Live Nation’s executive Dan Wall described the allegations as a misinterpretation of both facts and law. However, acknowledging public criticism, Ticketmaster is taking significant steps to refine its operations.

One of the most notable changes includes limiting each individual and broker to a single Ticketmaster account, aiming to curb the monopoly some brokers hold over ticket availability. This strategic move indicates Ticketmaster’s renewed commitment to ensuring fans have direct access to tickets, minimizing the sway brokers hold in the secondary market. Additionally, the company will remove certain features from its TradeDesk platform, a move considered beneficial to its reputation.

Dan Wall affirmed that all tickets distributed through Ticketmaster are available to everyone, refuting claims of secretive sales to brokers. He further stressed that there has never been any deliberate relaxation of ticket limits for financial benefit.

Highlighting its ongoing tech battle, Ticketmaster reported blocking 8.7 billion bots in April 2025 and stopping over six billion fake accounts this year alone. These statistics underscore their robust efforts to ensure legitimate fan access.

Despite these changes, critics, including the National Independent Talent Association and the National Independent Venue Association, urge more decisive actions. They argue that the resale of tickets above face value is detrimental to both artists and fans, advocating for a cap on resale prices.

As this story unfolds, the discussion around Ticketmaster’s role in the live music ecosystem continues. Their response to the lawsuit may shape future industry practices, offering insight into how major platforms address consumer and artist concerns.
