SoundCloud, the popular music streaming platform, has recently introduced a new feature called ‘Buzzing Playlists’ in an effort to boost artist discovery. These playlists are specifically curated for electronic music, hip-hop and rap, pop, and R&B genres. However, what makes this feature unique is the way it determines which tracks are featured.

The ‘Buzzing Playlists’ are a result of SoundCloud’s ‘First Fans’ initiative, which was launched last year. This initiative recommends tracks by artists in its ‘Next Pro’ tier to a select group of up to 1,000 listeners who are likely to enjoy them. Now, the platform will be taking the top-performing tracks from these recommendations, based on factors such as likes, comments, reposts, replays, and playlist adds, and featuring them in the ‘Buzzing Playlists’.

This new feature serves as a stepping stone for artists to get their music featured on SoundCloud’s established editorial playlists and ultimately, its charts. Since the launch of ‘First Fans’, the platform has analyzed over 3.5 million tracks and recommended them to listeners. As a result, the average artist has seen a significant 400% increase in streams.

SoundCloud’s ‘Buzzing Playlists’ not only provide a platform for emerging artists to gain exposure but also offer listeners a chance to discover new and exciting music. With this new feature, SoundCloud continues to solidify its position as a leading platform for artist discovery and music promotion.
